RAP AND HIP-HOP INTERNAL

Hi guys, can you make sure that by Friday you do another slide? Please pass this on (I originally said 2 but that would be rushing it)

MARKING CRITERIA CHECKLIST

Hi guys - here is a checklist to see if you're on track! Tick the box when you've covered the criteria.

NEW QUESTION

Please change your question to this:

How is Rap and hip-hop represented as encouraging a culture of violence on society?

LESSON 18TH FEB

Hi guys. I'm not here today because I'm on another field trip. I'd like to remind you that your deadline is on Wednesday (1-3 slides of your internal). Make sure you are answering the question. To help you with this I've added an example for you. Please note that the question has also changed. You'll see this on the slide above.

Please see the example below - this assignment is unfinished. This assignment would get just 'achieved' if it continued in the same way. It starts off well (in the history and key conventions section) and although it uses key terminology it doesn't relate back to the question later on in the XXL analysis and the views are rather general. The information provided is quite vague and lacks direction. The writer knows how to identify theorists (such as audience gratification theory) but it is not focused. For a higher grade, the writer would need to evaluate the texts, refer back to the question and critic the text (deciding whether the representation is close to reality and how..). The writer would also need to identify the idea of stereotypes.

15th Feb

Hi Year 12, sorry I'm not here again. I'm sure you'll cope very well.

Please finish the two parts of the doc in class, taking notes. Then begin slides 1, 2 and 3 of your internal. This will be due on Weds. I won't see you so please ensure that you e-mail me your work - e.bell@kingscollege.school.nz

Reason I say e-mail is because it's an internal assessment and your work should not go on the blog.

We'll have a test on Thursday/Friday so please revise from the booklet handed out to you in class TODAY. KEY TERMS AND THEORISTS!!!!

Thanks,

Miss Bell

CLASS WORK: 14th Feb

Happy Valentine's Day Year 12! Sorry I'm not here today but I'm sure you'll work very hard despite the fact I'm not there to help you.

Please would you watch Part 1&2 of the doc we started in class yesterday? Take it from where you left off. You'll have to watch it on YOUR COMPUTER. Please use your headphones but if you don't have any you'll find them on my desk. Please put them back.

Please answer the questions from yesterday. Make sure you learn about: representation vs reality, the idea of stereotypes, how rap and hip-hop has become part of our society, how record companies create these representations, the history and culture of rap!

TASK 7th Feb - RIP IT UP

Hi! Today we're going to investigate RIP IT UP magazine in order to get to grips with our internal and external standards. On your tables, I'd like you to grab the magazine and upload materials on your blog to illustrate the following:

 1) Take a look at the front cover, look at your key terminology. What do you spot? Analyse the things you spot - how do these key elements 'enhance' the magazine or even the representation of the artist?

 2) Can you spot any reviews? Do these reviews tend to be of the same type of music or are they varied? Can you see any features? What are they generally of?

 3) What are the typical 'ideologies' of the magazine. Can you spot any of these? What do they say?

 4) What are the Unique Selling Points of the magazine? How do they effectively target an audience?

5) Think back to 'audience gratification theory' and decide if the magazine targets an audience in terms of: surveillance, personal relationships, personal identity or escapism?

 5) Take a look at your RIP IT UP booklet. From investigating the magazine how can you spot any of these ideas presented in the booklet? Read the audience section: how does the magazine meet the expectations of the audience?
